Cocktails O’Clock: Inspired by…

Calgary, Canada

The Classic Caesar

4 oz. Clam-Tomato Cocktail (Clamato Juice)
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 oz. vodka
1 Dash Tabasco Sauce
Celery salt, to taste
Celery stalk
Lime wedge
Salt and pepper

caeser cocktail
Looks just like a Bloody Mary but the difference is in the details…

–          Fill a glass with ice and drop in the Vodka and Tabasco, celery salt and Worcestershire sauce and stir well.

–          Top up with the clamato juice and stir again.

–          Garnish with the celery stick, lime wedge and your combo of salt/pepper.

This cocktail is a Calgary (Canada) special, taking inspiration from the Bloody Mary but gives off a completely different taste sensation.

Although Clamato is in essence a Clam & Tomato juice, the taste you are presented with is refreshingly different. Almost similar to the New Zealand Bloody Mary I created for my 3 course cocktail post a while back…

available at Sainsbury’s and other random convenience stores across the UK, Clamato is the go to (and needed for this drink)…

This cocktail is a great Canadian staple and works brilliantly for those who like their bloody marys a little more seasoned than most. The best thing for all you readers here in the UK is that you can buy ‘Clamato’ here in your local supermarket, Sainsbury’s to be precise.

The only thing you need to remember when making this drink is to always include the Clamato. The spirit is usually Vodka, but generally you can use any spirit, just pick your favourite… Gin, Tequila and Rum are all good choices…

So the next time you go for a Bloody Mary, give this recipe a try instead and you never know, you may just prefer it…
